When I was about fifteen, I read this, “…whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things…”
Note that there is no set amount of days. It simply says to do it. Basically, forever.
Personally, I see a change around 2-3 months.
I grab my journal.
I think about my negative attributes and then write down the exact opposite. Then throughout the day when a negative thought comes to mind, I put effort into thinking about positive thoughts. Eventually, your mind will pick up on this positivity and do it naturally.
You may be thinking,
“But I have done this and it didn’t work.”
Or,
“That’s a lot of effort.”
Or,
“Seems too simple.”
Or,
“How could this possibly be a solution?”
Thing is…it worked for me. And it’s not too late to try it.
I struggle with feeling worthless and powerless with a mix of social anxiety. So when I get into a depression spell, my thoughts look like this,
“I am worthy. I am safe. I am loved. I am content. I am happy. I am beautiful. I am filled. I am safe. I am loved. I am worthy…” And on and on. It’s my coping mechanism.
You could also try reading a script that is inspiring and empowering to you. After continuously reading it, you will have memorized it and you can use it to keep your mind positive.
